Safe Harbor

St. John sponsors Safe Harbor, a lakeside ministry at Lake Corpus Christi. Safe Harbor provides weekly worship, Bible school for children, and seasonal events like Easter egg hunts and Halloween gatherings. It also operates a thrift store whose proceeds support local needs and charities across the Coastal Bend.

Women’s Ministry

The Ruth Circle and other women’s groups meet regularly for Bible study, fellowship, and service projects. Quilts are sewn for shelters and missions, items are gathered for the homeless, and offerings support hunger relief and other ELCA ministries.

Sewing & Quilting

Volunteers sew bedding and quilt covers for those in need, offering warmth and dignity to people experiencing homelessness or hardship. This hands-on ministry combines skill, fellowship, and service.

Scouts

St. John is proud to sponsor Troop 53 and Cub Scout Pack in Bishop. Our partnership with the Scouts has been a blessing for both congregation and community, providing young people with leadership skills, service opportunities, and a strong moral foundation.

Community Outreach

Our members are active in the Bishop community and surrounding areas through:

• Potlucks, BBQs, and fellowship meals
• Annual events like Blessing of the Backpacks (with school supply donations)
• Blessing of the Pets
• Supporting local schools and shelters
• Participating in community-wide services for Easter, Thanksgiving, and other occasions

Cross+Generational Sunday School

nstead of separate classes, our congregation embraces intergenerational learning, gathering all ages (from toddlers to grandparents) for Sunday School after worship. This format encourages sharing faith stories, learning together, and building deeper connections across generations.

Fellowship & Fun

Faith is also about joy! From Bunco nights and holiday gatherings to coffee and sweets after worship, we cherish time together as God’s family.
